Axler Goldich and Williams Cedar are pursuing a qui tam action, under the federal False Claims Act, against several student loan servicers for failing to comply with both federal and state law in applying borrower payments during the COVID-19 forbearance period. The defendants include Great Lakes, PHEAA, Navient, and others. The case, which was originally filed under seal, is Hlywiak v. Great Lakes Educational Loan Services, Inc., et al., No. 1:20-cv-13590-RMB-KMW (D.N.J.).
